Avocat waterfall, Trinidad and Tobago
Event Details
Located just a short distance off the Arima/Blanchisseuse Road is the village of Avocat. Within this village lies ‘Gran Fond Falls’ meaning “the river that comes from the sky” as named by the Amerindians. Landscaped by a wall of glistening bronze rocks and lush vegetation, one can enjoy a spray bath behind the curtain of falling water that thunders down into a jacuzzi-type pool below.
On return from the falls, we visit Fort Abercromby overlooking Las Cuevas Bay are the remnants of Fort Abercromby. Built by the British in 1804 as part of the fortification of Trinidad that included Fort George and North Post. What remains now is just two lone canons marking the headland but Fort Abercromby is still a place with fantastic ocean views. A stairway leads to a lookout which gives a more picturesque view of the ocean and surroundings. The deep clear pool below this fort is a popular fishing and snorkeling spot.
